Nude Ronda Rousey ESPN Body Issue 2012: Ronda Rousey's over-the-Line Comments Ruin Her Cover Debut
Perhaps Ronda Rousey's derogatory comments about Kim Kardashian's sex tape would've gone over a little better if she hadn't made them on the heels of a nude magazine photo shoot.
Rousey, an MMA fighter who appears in this year's ESPN The Magazine Body Issue, made some controversial remarks about America's favorite reality star on Wednesday while promoting the issue. Here are the comments that are suitable for print, via the New York Post's Justin Terranova:
Why is everyone slipping it under the carpet now? She's selling Skechers to 13-year-olds. I don't want a girl whose entire fame is based on a sex video to be selling Skechers to my 13-year-old little sister.
I'm not ever one to defend Kim Kardashian. Ninety percent of the time, it's easy to see why the world finds her deplorable. But there is a time and a place for everything, and while it's interesting that Rousey chose to verbally obliterate a Kardashian while taking off her clothes to sell magazine covers, it probably wasn't the wisest decision, in retrospect.
There's also the idea that calling yourself a role model while threatening assault isn't the best choice, but I'll curb that one for the time being.
The point is this: There is something to be said for taking the high road, and using the debut of your nude magazine cover as a platform to threaten to "beat the crap" out of a celebrity is just as tacky as making a sex tape. Well, maybe not quite as tacky, but it's up there.
This isn't about taking the side of a morally-decrepit Kardashian over taking the side of an MMA fighter. I don't like Kim, but come on. She made a dumb mistake in her 20s and while it's unclear whether or not she or her fame-seeking ex-boyfriend leaked it, she probably wouldn't have filed a lawsuit against Ray J if she was the source of the juicy material.
Regardless, did Kim K strip for public consumption? No, as far as we know. Rousey did, to sell magazine covers, no matter how artistic and respectable the photo shoot may have been. So there's that.
And just for the record, if Rousey thinks she's one of the most famous female fighters in the world because of what she does in the Octagon, she's in for a reality check.
This isn't meant to be a moral debate. It's just that Rousey's participation in the Body Issue could've been something nice. She could've gotten some great press just from being in the magazine itself.
She really didn't have to resort to Kardashian-bashing in order to make a name for herself, but hey. At least she'll probably end up in a Kanye song somewhere down the line.
